tornadoinheels: ([sara] try me)
OKAY. So Sara's Rift ability now makes her a human lie detector. If she makes direct eye contact with a character, she can be able to tell when they're lying. Not necessarily what they're lying about exactly, and she won't be able to divine the truth, but she'll be able to sense that the lie itself existed.

But given that some characters around here have powers that might not prevent that, permissions post!

So, people of Chicago, answer me this:

Can Sara tell if your character is lying?

AND ... GO!

Short answer: YUP.

Long answer: For everyone, probably. No one I have has any psychic powers. My wanderers are as follows:

Michael Vaughn (power= he's sort of 'practically invincible' but he still feels pain)
Scout (power= she can become invisible)

Leon and Trin are just your run-of-the-mill angel/demon types. SO. Yup. :D

I BELIEVE SHE CAN FOR MOST OF MINE. Angels can't really lie without it hurting them, anyway.

For my demons (mostly Lena and Josef) I am inclined to say no, or at the very least, it wouldn't work as well, since their Calling is emotionally/psychologically based and it might make them murky.

For the rest, go to town!

ALL of mine but Sonny likely, she could tell with, and again, I'd make it clear they were lying AND looking into her eye at the same time and you should be good to go. Damon, I wouldn't really WANT to catch him in a lie and say so out loud as idek what his reaction would be. >>" I guess it would depend on the lie. :x

Trelawney believes everything she says is THE TRUTH so even when she's not telling the truth, it won't come off as a lie either :x

I'd say it's a BIG YES for everyone (Dave is a horrible liar, Fletcher can't really lie because of the angel thing, Giles... doesn't enjoy lying, and Kenzie's just a teenager) EXCEPT Dani and Gilderoy.

Gilderoy is a really, really great liar and he's believed his own bullcrap for YEARS. But Sara can probably still tell when he's lying if she makes eye contact. Even though he's going to try to stop that.

Dani is the only one who Sara might have some real trouble with. She is an excellent liar and can pokerface from here to the moon and back. She was born and raised a liar and doesn't really have any "tells."

Mio (this lady right here): maaaaaaaybe. Mio's a psychic with pretty good shields, and she grew up in 'high society' so she has a very good public face, so I want to say that it'd probably be pretty difficult for Sara to get anything definite from Mio. That being said, Mio doesn't tend to lie so much as omit the truth or stretch the truth in new and interesting ways, and I'm not sure if either of those would trigger Sara's ability.

I tend to be pretty clear about what's actually going on in Mio's head vs. what she says in the narration, so I'll pretty much leave it up to you to make judgement calls on a case-by-case basis if/when things come up.

Uchiko-chan ([livejournal.com profile] where_thou_art): is the openest of open books. I'm pretty sure she doesn't even know how to lie, and if she tried to even a 5-year-old would notice, so she's pretty much an obvious YES.

First of all: Sara! *glees* I am so glad to see her in the game! :D

As for the question, none of my boys (Peter, Remus and Nick) actually have anything that'd block Sara's ability. However, I seriously doubt she'd ever get anything off of Nick, because between the writing and the lipreading it's very rare that he's looking people in the eye when he's talking to them.

The other two, go for it. I will do my best to mark if they're likely to be looking her in the eye while lying, so you know if she's going to be picking up on it.

In conclusion, eee! Sara! :D

Eeeyup. I pretty much always write it into the narration if a character's lying. Only have this guy right now, though.

He usually looks people in the eye, but it might be hard for her to look back, if that's an issue. His eyes are completely black and light doesn't quite work around him the way it should, making his face a bit difficult to discern.
